The object of the Lusk Volunteer Fire Department is the organization and maintenance of an efficient fire department and the effective protection and preservation of life and property during such fires, rescues or other emergency events as may occur in the Town of Lusk, Niobrara County and the Wyoming vicinity.
The Lusk fire department was first organized in the 1920’s. Today the department consists of strictly volunteer firemen from all walks of life within our community. They are cooperators with the Niobrara County Rural Fire District and operate the counties new Class A pumper for all structure fires in the county and the districts rescue unit for all automobile accidents where extrication is required.
Housed here in town are a total of 3 wild land fire rigs, a command unit, and one water tender that the Lusk Volunteer Fire Department operates in response to any wild land or other fire incident that happens within and around Niobrara County along with the Class A pumper and Rescue truck.
Currently the Town of Lusk has one Class A Structure Pumper and one Aerial Apparatus Ladder Truck that is operated within the city limits. A new Class A Pumper truck updates the older pumper and provides more protection for our growing community. All the department members are required to carry a department issued pager so they can respond when dispatched from the Niobrara County Sheriff’s Department.
Because of the wide variety of incidents that the department responds to in and around the county and regulations put forth by the NFPA and OSHA, all members are encouraged and required to further their education and certification or accredited in the following areas:
A few of our senior fire officers are also certified through the State of Wyoming, the NFPA, National Wildfire Coordinating Group and the National Fire Academy to teach certified classes to make the training process more cost effective for the fireman and the community.
